  • feature ID tags in v4.0 - How do I view more tags?

    Anyone using 4.0??
I use it at another job and would like to change the amount of tags that are viewed in the graphic window.

I right click on a ID tag in the graphic window and choose "show all" and I get a message that only 100 tags per view are allowed!! This is very restrictive when trying to find a feature graphically. I didn't write the program I am trying to edit and cant spend all night manually clicking on each feature (approx 600 features total)!!

Well with the message it gives one would assume that if you created multiple views it would put 1-100 in view 1, 101-200 in view 2, and so on.......this isn't the case....go figure!!

It shows the same or less tags from the first view in each of the other 4 views i set up.....aaaaaaaahhhhhhggggggg!!!!

    Am I missing something??

I asked this at the usergroup and was told that the maximum is 400 tags. I was told it could be increased to 400. I'm not sure if he meant 400 total or 400 per view. Either way I don't know where or how to increase this value. I searched for every possible "string" in the settings editor and couldn't find any default value set to 100. I can only assume its not listed under something I would think it should be.

Anyone have any suggestions to increase the tags per view??

    thanks
    Mike

this was sent to tech sup last week wednesday.....no response yet.....can you guys beat there response time?

I am using 3.7 mr3 but maybe this would work in 4.0

I suppose you don't know the ID of the feature you are looking for. Otherwise you could go to Edit-graphics display window-feature appearance and set one feature to off, click apply then set the feature you want as on and click apply. Viola feature label.

If you don't know the ID then you could just set the first 100 to off and then set the next 100 to on. Be sure to click apply after changing the setting. Time consuming but it might work.

I guess MY question would be, "WHY is it limited at all? For what reason?" You mean if I have over 400 points on a part (happens), I can not display all the labels at once? This was not the case in the past.

        Matt,

I was told that it was going to be made into layers. My guess is that I was lied to or they just didn't bother making it right.

Maybe to reduce the amount rendering that takes place with the lables? Hate them things when you have a huge point cloud...

Very good question Matt....this is totally not acceptable. Resources are whats needed to run these newer and newer versions. I would guess that they (Wilcox) made the decision to limit the tags for better graphic response time. Each of those buggers is a small .bmp that has to be redrawn each time the graphic window is accessed by either creating a new feature or moving a tag or rotating...etc...

The use of .bmp (vs .jpg which is much smaller in size) file type for this (pcdmis) application is very much a burdon on the graphic engine (their own) and thus the reason for a beefy card, thus the reason gforce is no longer recommended or supported. I bet they were just fine in the past with lesser requirements.

I made a call this morning to tech sup and still no response nor a follow up to the email I sent to them last week wednesday.

::EDIT:: tech sup called back during my lunch here in "Central standard time" and I was out. I can honestly say 80% of the return calls come during my lunch. It's 75 and sunny and thats why I missed the call. Phone tag here we go....

As quoted directly from the PC-DMIS Support Database...

"In V40 the hard coded 400 label limit is in the registry setting as
              Option – TextBoxMaximumActive
400 is the default, and each view consumes 1 label.
A value of zero (0) indicates that there is no label limit."

              Stu

PS - The reason for a limit was for memory resource problems with Windows and version 3.7.

I'm one of the tech support here in Canada for PC-DMIS. Most tech support personnel (if I'm not mistaken) have access to this to aid in troubleshooting, reporting and fixing issues and enhancements in PCDMIS.

                    thank you

                    thanks again Stuart

that (0) value in the registry key worked just fine to view all the tags in one window

I must have enough resources to handle it without any error msg's
