  • intersection of cylinder and sphere?

I'm trying to get a depth where a spherical radius and a cylinder intersect

imagine a part, round stock, with a bore down the middle and an internal spherical radius in the end. all done on a lathe at the same time.
there is a callout for the intersection of these two features from the front face.
I can measure the bore and the sphere, but I can't get PCDMIS to create the intersection (would be a circle).

    any thoughts out there?

    thanks,
    bob

I don't know if this is what you want, but rather that do a construction why don't you try to tolerance the distance from the end of the part to the radius and select add radius in that distance window.
Time for the Trolls to leave.

Right, can you make a plane on top, do the sphere, then do a 3D distance,

but wouldn't that give me the very center of the sphere depth?

I need a depth that is not on center.....

That is what the add radius will do is give you the distance from the center of the sphere plus the radius of it.

I forgot to add that, thanks for Q.C.ing me William

Did you try to go 2D?
You can create line on side of the cylinder and circle on the bottom (sphere) laying in the same plane which is coming through the center of the cylinder. Than you need to pierce(!) line with circle.
Sounds strange but it works for me.
You might need to play with vector of the line and (not sure) be in right working plane.
Let me know if it is working for you.
