    Default Weird Start-up Issue

Recently, we've added another user/login to the CMM computer.

When PC-Dmis starts on the new login it pauses briefly then tries to create a new file called "Optional". After hitting Cancel, it tries to create a new file called "startup". After hitting Cancel again it tries to create a new file called "command". After hitting Cancel again, it tries to create a new file called "line". After hitting Cancel again, I can finally use the File menu commands to create or open files.

Anyone ever experience this? I asked about this once before and didn't get much of an answer. I left the new CMM programmer to try and solve the problem but he's gone today and I'm back on the machine - and the problem still exists.

When I go back to the old login, this problem does not exist.

This happens both for versions 2011 and 2011MR1. I am using the PC-Dmis Multi-version utility to open PC-Dmis, but the same situation happens if I use the regular Start Menu Icon.

There is a scenario I can envision where you can edit the PC-DMIS shortcut to re-direct it to start any application you want. You can substitute a batch file to perform some repetitive or custom task, and then have that open PC-DMIS. It sounds like someone has been tinkering with this system. If this were the case, you should be able to un-install PC-DMIS and then re-install it to get things back the way they were. Have you tried that? Alternatively, you could just inspect the properties of the icon that is being used to start PC-DMIS. See if it goes to PCDLRN.EXE or somewhere else?

Right click on the PC-Dmis icon and see what file 'Target' is pointing at.

Short-cuts and Icons all check out fine.

Anyway I can check Admin Rights without calling my company's IT guy?

    start>regedit

then you can go through all the wai/pcdmis values and change whatever you can find..

hope that points you in the right direction

After messing around quite a bit, I found that I don't have this problem if I start PC-Dmis by going through the Start menu. It only happens if I use the Multi-Version starter utility.
Not sure why this is, but at least now I know where to start looking.

It sounds like the Multi-Version Starter has added the text "Optional startup command line" to the command that starts PC-DMIS. This sounds as if it is some kind of hint/comment in the Multi-Version Starter dialog. Just remove that text from its input field, an re-save the Multi-Version Starter configuration.

Caveat: I don't have any experience with the Multi-Version Starter (homebrew program? Wilcox add-on? link?), so I'm just guessing.
