View Full Version : Adding a probe to your arm?

We got a new 3mm probe for our Romer arm. Someone else here says that they calibrated the probe and that it was ready for use. I keep getting an error saying "Unknown probe file: Romer_Probe4. Check usrprobedat." This error occurs in PCDMIS. I've gone back thru the directions to install the probe as if it hasn't been done yet but I still have the error. Does anyone know what is going wrong? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It sounds like the probe is not being recognized by WinRDS.
Try performing a search for the "usrprobedat" file, it will more than likely be in the WinRDS folder.
If it's not there, your best bet is to contact tech support.

Hi Chirs,
Probe handling on the Romer Arms in PC-DMIS is a fairly convoluted subject...
The problem is either that you don't have a UserProbe.dat file with a ROMER_PROBE4 QC entry in it.
Make a new text file, and save it as USRProbe.dat in your PD-DMIS directory.
Open the your new USRProbe.dat file up and past the following lines into it.
ITEM:ROMER_PROBE4 QC
begintip
ribcount 10
color 117 117 117
cylinder 0 0 0 0 0 -19 11
color 228 228 228
cylinder 0 0 -19 0 0 -20 11
cone 0 0 -20 11 0 0 -23 5
cylinder 0 0 -23 0 0 -23 5
color 242 242 242
cylinder 0 0 -23 0 0 -26 3
cone 0 0 -26 3 0 0 -30 2
cylinder 0 0 -30 0 0 -44 2
sphere 0 0 -45 3
hotspot 0 0 -45 0 0 1 3 3 fixedball
endtip
Restart PC-DMIS with your new probe on and it should be fine.
Hope this helps.
