I may take a look at it, but I am pretty busy right now so it will have to take a back seat to 3.7mr3. I know that mr3 works pretty darn good, so I'm staying with it for now

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO 2 RELEASES A YEAR!!!!

This is exactly what happened around the 3.5, 3.6 deal. Come on BnS...Are you going to be releasing 4.0 mr1 next week???

I hope to hear something back on 4.0. stable? Why even get 3.7mr3 now???

[quote=kbotta]WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO 2 RELEASES A YEAR!!!!

Look at it this way, 3.5 wasn't good until MR2, 3.6 was junk. (period), 3.7 wasn't good until MR2, but is better with MR3. Now will 4.0 be another 3.6? Or will it be a good product at MR4. . .5. . . ? ! ? And remember we have already seen a post on the old forum by B & S looking for ideas for 5.0. Anyone want to give odds on how many people are currently working on version 6.0?

I just changed to 3.7 about 2 weeks ago. At training we were warned that 4.0 would need a computer with a lot of horsepower. I think I'll hold off for now.

For years, PC-DMIS would only run on N-Vidia cards, now they change the rules? Do they throw in a new video card with the SMA?

I have been trying to convice the bean counters that upgrading is the way to go, but now, we would have to change video cards as well. I realize that a video card doesn't cost that much, but still, it's an added cost. And, If I would change to an ATI card, or one that would work with 4.0, it wouldn't work with the previous releases. So, what are the options?

Good thing I read all the responses, our SMA was just updated and I was considering tring 4.0, but now i'm not to sure. Does anyone know offhand what the aprox. cost of the video card they want us to use is?

i'll stick with the broken glass & gasoline/matches combo... :D :D **** i was happy with 3.2063, i could run it with my eyes closed. i guess this is what they call progress

The PC that I got from Brown and Sharpe about a year ago has an NVidia graphics card in it.

There is NO WAY we are going to upgrade the card to run 4.0.
Looks like we won't be upgrading.

It's unfortunate, I was looking forward to 4.0

What are they thinking over there.......????????

I believe it is only the g-force series card not all nvidia cards.I downloaded 4.0 yesterday for trial only. I have a Nvidia card(quadro? I believe) it works great(graphics anyway). New GDT dimensioning looks promising. I have not used it for any measuring yet. new reports look a little busy. I guess I need to use it more to form any real opinion yet.

I stand corrected. If the Quadro is supported, (which is what we have), then I will upgrade ASAP.

:D :D :D

Yeah, I'm interested in the new reporting capabilities.
I might have to give BnS a shout about the Nvidia's though...

I went back and re-read the system system requirements for 4.0. It does clearly state that the Nividia GeForce is not supported, but does not say anything about the Quadro. I may be alright after all.

Does anyone know, or has anyone heard if this release fixes the Memory error that I get EVERY FREAKING DAY with 3.7mr2?

Just a thought ...
have you loaded the MS Hotfix that is documented at the wilcox site?
It is specifically related to the Memory errors that are occuring

look at the press release area of the wilcoxassoc.com site
I remember it being in that area

Thanks Mike, yeah I did that a while ago, and still no luck. Our "IT" guy is gone for a few days, when he gets back I'm gonna say ***** it and dive headlong into 4.0:eek:

I have downloaded Ver 4.0, was interested in the new Auto Path feature that B&S advertised in their newsletter as Coming Soon in PC-DMIS 4.0, after searching for half an hour, finally called B&S. After two days, four phone calls, it is an add-on in their Inspection Planner package.

Not sure why I keep paying SMA on four seats. Seems like any major improvement (not even sure if this is), just adds to the annual price I pay for it.

Anyone else know of anything major that 4.0 does that 3.7MR3 doesn't?

I saw a demo of 4.0 at a user group meeting...In 4.0 you are able to define datums, and then build your true position FCF's from the datum list. 4.0 also offers support for laser scanners, that alows you to collect a large cloud of points and compare it to the model. As stated in an earlier post there is the Auto Path Scan... define a path line based on points you pick and scanning head will flollow your points.
