Newbie on board! need email contacts for occassional help-

the 5-day training in Nashville (*&^%###%) and have been hacking away at it for 6 months now. I would like to get email contact with anyone who might
be able to answer an occassional niave question about programming or cmms in general. I don't have a clue what most of the archived threads are about
so I'm a little shy about bothering the forum with questions like- " How do you turn this thing on !?!?!" Is there a forum anywhere for "dmis for dummies"?
Are there another other U.S. Navy- associated users out there?

Welcome.

You will get more help by using the forum rather than email. Plus you will possibly get more than one solution to your needs. The people on this forum ahave been a great help to me since I started using PC-DMIS last Nov. Yes, I had been using my CMM for 6+ years, but with Apogee software. The difference is like night and day. I can actually say that with this forum I have been able to progress more quickly. I came away from my 5 days of training with my head spinning and wondering what I got myself into! I felt like I had just started all over again (which I had), but was nowhere near the level that I needed to be at for the parts we are running. It's amazing what PC-DMIS can do once you learn it. I'm just starting to use the looping command and am lovin' it!

good luck to you, and don't feel like it's a dumb question. the only dumb question is the one that didn't get asked and now the parts are all scrap!

:cool: As you have already been told, this is a GREAT place to get answers. Remember, we were all there once. Also, pc-dmis.com is a similar forum. Kenny G. did some contract work for us when we first bought our CMM 5 years ago. He also helped me out via email and telephone when I was afraid to ask stupid questions online. I tell people here, if you can inspect on a surface plate you can learn to program the CMM. Let me expound on that. I mean layout inspection on a plate. You need to understand GD&T. I'm guessing you do.

Welcome to CMM land! In addition to the previous posts, I would add that most of us actually have work we have to do in addition to posting on these forums. So if you post, you have a better chance that someone with time to help you will see your problem, than if you just email it to one or two people who may be currently involved in a super hot situation.
We were all newbies once, and even after we get some experience under our belts, we can still make mistakes. Many of the issues we deal with are very complex and it is often easy to misread or misinterpret a question resulting in an answer that does not solve the problem. If you post on the forum you get the bennefit of many evaluations and responses instead of just one or two.
I have never seen anyone put down for asking a simple question, unless they ask it in a rude or arrogant way.



P.S. Look for the button and/or switch with the sybol "1/0" near it. There should be one for the computer and one for the CMM controler. They turn the the things on and off. :D

I've only been using PC-DMIS a little over a year. THe guys on this forum have been a great help and are always quick to help even the the simplest of problems. Thanks to all!!!:D

When you say US Navy Associated members what exactly do you mean?
I have written programs for parts used by military including nuclear submarine parts. Also, I spent 6 years in the US Navy aboard Nuclear Submarines.

I work for the Navy in Southern Maryland. I was hoping to find others in similar proximity to the navy who I could network with, but so far no real luck but I'm still looking.
I was actually enlisted Air Force btw 1970-74.
